Help & FAQ

Common questions about kuroko, playback, your account and the catalog. If you can't find what you're looking for, the contact form is one click away.

Playback

The video won't play — what should I try first?
Refresh the page (Ctrl/Cmd-R). 90% of failures are transient CDN hiccups that clear on reload. If that doesn't help, click the Server button under the player and pick a different source — kuroko fans out across multiple providers and they rarely all go down at once.
Why does the first few seconds buffer longer than usual?
Kuroko serves each episode via a signed-token reverse proxy — the very first request for an episode triggers a 1-2 second cold-cache fan-out across kuro-embed (sub/dub) and Inazuma (anikoto) backups. Subsequent loads in the next 4 hours are served from cache and start in under 200ms.
How do I skip the intro / outro?
Open the player settings (the Server pill on the watch page opens it) and toggle Skip intro. Once enabled, kuroko auto-skips the intro/outro of any episode with detected chapter markers — usually the first and last ~90 seconds.
Can I switch between sub and dub?
Yes — the same settings drawer has an Audio entry. Pick Sub or Dub and the player reloads at the current timestamp with the other track. Your choice is remembered across episodes.
Subtitles are out of sync by a few seconds.
Open settings → Caption Styles → there's an offset slider. Negative shifts subtitles earlier, positive later. kuroko remembers the offset per-browser.

Account & library

Do I need an account to watch?
No — guests can watch everything. The trade-off is your watchlist, history and progress live only in the current browser. Sign in (free, email-only) to sync them across devices.
Where is my watchlist stored?
Guests: in localStorage under the kuroko.watchlist key. Signed-in members: in the kuroko SQLite database, tied to your account id.
How do I delete my account?
Open the contact page and send a deletion request from the email you signed up with. We wipe your account row and all associated watchlist/history rows within 24 hours — no soft-delete, no residual data.

Sources & servers

Where do the streams actually come from?
Kuroko itself doesn't host video. The api.stream endpoint fans out across multiple upstream providers — kuro-embed (Kuroko Server 1, sub + dub) and Inazuma (anikoto + AniWaves backup). The signed /media/<token> URL you see in the network tab is kuroko's reverse-proxy to the chosen upstream, sealed for 4 hours.
Some servers don't have a dub — why?
Not every anime is dubbed. When no dub track exists upstream, the DUB option in the audio picker is greyed out. The vote pill on the watch page also reflects this — if you can't pick DUB server-side, the audio picker won't pretend otherwise.
Can I request a new source?
Yes — use the contact page and mention the anime + the upstream provider (Consumak, AniWave, etc.). We evaluate each request against traffic volume and reliability before adding a new fan-out tier.

Catalog & discovery

Why are some AniList IDs missing from the catalog?
The kuroko catalog is a curated set of ~50 currently-airing or recently-finished series. Any AniList id — even one not in the catalog — works on the watch page directly: ?page=details&id=21 resolves One Piece regardless. The catalog is just for browse / A-Z / home rails.
How do episode thumbnails work?
Each episode still is fetched from TMDB first (real scene screenshots). If TMDB has no still for that episode, kuroko falls back to AniZip's TVDB screenshots. If both are missing, you'll see the episode number as a placeholder. Both layers are cached for 30 days so the filmstrip stays fast on rewatch.
Why does kuroko have so few ads compared to other anime sites?
Because kuroko has zero ads. The site is funded out of pocket and runs on a single VPS. No pre-rolls, no pop-unders, no banner ads. The only network requests kuroko makes are to its own origin, image.tmdb.org, artworks.thetvdb.com, s4.anilist.co and the upstream stream providers.

Technical

Why is the URL ?page=watch&id=21&ep=1 and not /watch/one-piece/1?
Backwards compatibility. The query-param URL format has been stable since launch and is indexed by Google and bookmarked by users. Renaming to slug-based URLs would break every existing bookmark without a redirect table — and the SEO benefit of slugs over numeric ids is marginal for a 50-title catalog. Kuroko preserves the working URLs.
Can I use kuroko on a smart TV / mobile app?
The web player works in any modern browser including Tizen (Samsung TV), webOS (LG TV) and iOS Safari. There's no native app yet — the site is a PWA with a service worker for offline shell caching. Add to home screen for an app-like experience.
How is kuroko so fast?
Three layers: (1) full-page cache for anonymous visitors (data/pagecache, ~5 minute TTL) — most page views never hit PHP, (2) Cloudflare edge cache in front of that (s-maxage=300), (3) per-endpoint caches for AniList detail (1h fresh / 7d stale), TMDB stills (30 days) and stream server lists (4 minutes fresh / 3 hours stale-while-revalidate). The kvs player also pre-warms the next and previous episode's stream list so binge navigation feels instant.
